ABSOLUTE RETURN Strategy... What's that?
Most investors are familiar with typical
"Relative Return" investing strategies. This type of investing Only seeks to measure an investment's performance "Relative" to some benchmark...Say a popular market index.

(*Please note that diversification does not guarantee against market losses. It is a method used to help manage investment risk. *Indices are unmanaged, statistical composites, and their returns do not include sales charges or fees an investor would pay to purchase the securities they represent. Such costs would lower performance. Index returns include reinvestment of all dividends. It is not possible to invest directly in an index.)
The key difference between "Relative" & "Absolute"strategies is the definition of RISK:
Absolute Return strategies define risk as simply "the Risk of Loss". Relative return strategies, on the other hand, define Risk as underperforming their benchmark index*. A "Relative" Example: Let's say it's the year 2000 again and your ABXYZ investment is down (-18%) this year, BUT the appropriate benchmark Index suitable for this type of investment is down (-20%)... Therefore, we can conclude you have "outperformed" the market "relative" to your benchmark.
Wait, we just lost money, but still outperformed...? This example is one of the pitfalls of relative returns.
Our "Absolute" Return strategy seeks to overcome this limitation by "budgeting" for a positive return target in any market environment. HVIM's investment managers are free to choose from Cash, Bonds, Stocks, etc... to build a truly diversfied* portfolio...Designed to seek "market" returns while striving to protect you from inevitable Market Declines.
